Abstract
U posljednjih nekoliko desetljeća javlja se globalni problem plastike u morskom okolišu. Plastika je materijal koji nema sposobnost brze razgradnje, a proizvođači i potrošači je najviše koriste zbog njene jednostavnosti i praktičnosti. Zbog loše izgrađenog sustava gospodarenja otpada, plastika nakon korištenja biva odbačena u okolišu. U morskom okolišu se ne moţe razgraditi ili joj treba čak i do nekoliko 1000 godina pa to stvara problem za biljni i životinjski svijet. Životinje najčešće zamjene plastiku za svoj plijen pa ju progutaju ili se jednostavno mogu zapetljati/ zaglaviti u njoj. Morski organizmi ulaze u hranidbeni lanac čovjeka što moŽe biti vrlo opasno jer plastika postaje toksična. Ukoliko se količina plastike u moru ne smanji i ako ne poraste svjesnost čovjeka o svrstavanju/recikliranju otpada, za nekoliko godina svijet bi mogao imati više plastike u moru nego riba.
