Abstract

Prašuma je stara prirodna šuma koja je isključivo pod utjecajem prirodnih prilika, odnosno ona koja se razvija bez izravnog antropogenog utjecaja. U Hrvatskoj je najveći broj prašuma ostao sačuvan na dinarskom dijelu. Od ukupno 18 prašuma u Hrvatskoj, s površinom od 5762 ha, 16 se nalazi na krškom području. Područje krša okarakterizirano je skupom raznovrsnih i međusobno ovisnih značajki koje uključuju i florističke značajke unutar kojih su najpoznatije bukovo-jelove prašume - karakterističan stanišni tip dinarskog krša. Većina prašuma u Hrvatskoj ima kategoriju zaštite posebni rezervat šumske vegetacije, a dvije prašume spadaju u kategoriju strogi rezervat. S obzirom da prašume, kao i drugi ekosustavi, ne mogu izbjeći onečišćenja ili negativne utjecaje klimatskih promjena, a njihova posebnost proizlazi iz očuvanja bioraznolikosti i proučavanja kako prirodnih procesa tako i struktura šume, potrebno je provoditi redovan monitoring ovog tipa staništa.

Abstract (english)

Virgin forest or old-growth forest is a forest that is exclusively influenced by natural conditions, forest that develops without direct anthropogenic influence. In Croatia, the largest number of virgin forests have been preserved in the Dinaric part. Out of total 18 virgin forests in Coratia, with an area of 5762 ha, 16 are located in the karst area. The karst area is characterized by a set of diverse and interdependent features that include floristic features (vegetation of karst) where the most famous are beech-fir virgin forests – a characteristic habitat type of the Dinaric karst. Most virgin forest in Croatia are protected as special reserve of forest vegetation and two are protected as strict nature reseve. Since virgin forests, like other ecosystems cannot avoid pollution or negative impacts of climate change, and their importance stems from the conservation of biodiversity and the study of both natural processes and forest strucutre, it is necessary to conduct regular monitoring of this type of habitat.
